There’s a voice crying out in the wild

“Make ready, make straight the way

God most High shall send His only Son

He Who was born that first Christmas Day.”

Ages ago the deceitful serpent said

“Do not listen to God, only to me

There are no side effects to the fruit

Eat it and like God you will be.”

But side effects there were indeed

As God Himself said there would be

Of death and destruction, sickness and pain

And of God they would no longer see

But God had a plan He set into motion

He would have a woman and her offspring

Be enemies of the serpent and his

The serpent’s destruction they would bring

There’s a voice crying out in the wild

“Make ready, make straight the way

God most High shall send His only Son

He Who was born that first Christmas Day.”

The ages of the world came and went

The human race angered God so many times

But He prepared mankind for the chosen One

Sending out details in clues and rhymes

Then came that eventful period

The time so many had looked for

A woman set apart by God

And the holy Child she bore

The angel Gabriel was sent to ask

If she would mother the Child

And Mary gave her consent

In a manner so gentle and mild

There’s a voice crying out in the wild

“Make ready, make straight the way

God most High shall send His only Son

He Who was born that first Christmas Day.”

Finally the long awaited day had come

Over which there had been much fuss

The hidden God was revealed in human face

For His Son was born into us

Angels came down in great glory

To announce the miraculous birth

To shepherds watching their flock

And wished joy and peace over the Earth

A mighty star was placed in the sky

As another sign of the momentous event

Which kings from the East did see

Bringing them to Him, each bearing a present

There’s a voice crying out in the wild

“Make ready, make straight the way

God most High shall send His only Son

He Who was born that first Christmas Day.”

The years passed in great succession

When that fateful day did come

When He would unlock the gates

Keeping them open to all or some

Many who were already dead for some time

He brought in with Him that day

Then went back to prepare the Apostles

On how to show others the way

He ascended into Heaven later on

Leaving the Apostles with parting words

That He would be back one last time

And it will be with heavenly swords

There’s a voice crying out in the wild

“Make ready, make straight the way

God most High shall send His only Son

He Who was born that first Christmas Day.”

There’s a voice crying out in the wild

“Make ready, make straight the way

God most High has sent His only Son

And He shall return in all His glory one day.”
